Some people put off giving up because they are worried about putting on weight. However, on average, after one year of not smoking most people will have only put on a very small amount.
Sometimes people do put on weight but this is for a number of reasons:
- Nicotine suppresses natural appetite and makes your body burn calories faster.
- Food tastes better once you stop because smoking affects your senses of smell and taste
- Cigarettes are replaced by snacks and extra food
To avoid putting on weight:
- Think about a healthy eating plan to accompany your new lifestyle
- Avoid snacks, high fat and or high calorie foods
